Getting here and around

The nearest international airport to Camp Liberty is in Boston, Massachusetts, which is a 3.5 hour drive south. If flying into Canada, we are a 4 hour drive from Quebec, and a 4.5 hour drive from Montreal. Both have large international airports. Closer to home, there are local airports in Augusta (50 minute drive) and Portland (1 hour 45).

Greyhound and Concorde buses run to Augusta, but no closer, and there are no local bus services or Uber. You will need to have your own vehicle, and in winter a 4 x 4 is essential.

Local area

Camp Liberty lies in the rolling hills of northwest Maine, not far from Canada and the stunning Appalachian trail. It is an easy 45 minute drive to Sugarloaf, the second largest ski resort east of the Mississippi.

A 2.5 hour drive east takes you to Bar Harbor, a popular town that serves as a gateway to the mountains of the stunning Acadia National Park. The park includes Cadillac Mountain, the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard, and the first place to view sunrise in the United States in winter.

Our nearest town is Farmington, a 5 mile drive south-west. The town has a full range of shops including an organic store, local butcher (supplying lobster) delicatessen and large supermarkets along with a cinema and restaurants. In winter, local Titcomb Hill is perfect for beginners.

Farmington was founded by the ancestors of the owners of Camp Liberty. The family are direct descendants of Captain Miles Standish of the Mayflower.

If arriving from Boston, you will drive through the tax-free state of New Hampshire, which has many quality outlets where you can get great deals. The same goes for the town of Freeport ME, which also lies on this route, 1.5 hours south of the Camp, and which hosts the flagship L.L. Bean store.
